Trans fat = bad fat?

Legislations has been passed requiring food companies to label their foods with the trans fat content in their foods because trans fat can increase the risks of getting heart disease. I found a website that I thought was pretty good and well informed about trans fats http://thetruthabouttransfat.com/.

The food item I chose is Nature Valley's Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars: Peanut. There are 14 natural and only 7 non-natural ingredients. I am concerned about eating healthy foods, but I don't always make the greatest choices with what I eat. I know I should be more concerned about what goes into my body, but at this time in my life, I don't really have the money or the time to worry about it unfortunately.

  1. Interesting site! I think you point about the price of food is dead on. It would be great to make healthier choices, but everything is so expensive. And those fresh foods always spoil so fast when you are only feeding one person...

  2. Very good website. I really don't get why some people think that it is too expensive to eat healthy. I find the opposite to be true for me and my family. For example, the other night my husband, son and I decided to get a quick meal at A&W...it ended up socting the 3 of us about $15 for 3 burgers, fries and drinks. If I had gone to the store and I mean Raleys(expensive) I could have bought chicken breasts($8), salad(2) and bread(14) for a little under $15 and we would have had water to drink. So we would have had a lot healthier dinner if I had just had the energy to go to the store and come home and cook. Fruits and veggies are pretty cheap compared to the boxed and center aisle foods at the grocery store.
Also another point I must bring up is the fact that if you continue to eat unhealth you will pay for it by all the medical problems you might encounter later on in life.
I also dont always eat the greatest but I very rarely eat out because it is so expensive. Just thought I would share with you my insight.

  4. You make a great point about the cost of eating healthy. I am afraid to look deep into the cons of eating non-organic; not only because it may eliminate foods that I do enjoy, but it will most likely cost my family more money at the grocery store. Have you ever been into Whole Foods, the new grocery store by the mall? It is super expensive.

  5. Good point about the no money or time to pay that much attention to what we eat. just finding time in the day to eat something is sometimes a struggle let alone being picky and figuring out what is in it and if its healthy to eat. Also buying everything organic is expensive and while better, not necessarily realistic for everyone.
